How Designers should search on Google?
Tips and Tricks for Google Search that will help Designers search in a smart manner.
As a Designer, you use Google search every day for a variety of reasons like finding images, icons, templates, documents, news about latest trends and technologies. Did you know that you may not be using Google search to its full potential?
These tips and tricks for Google Search will help you search smarter and find what you’re looking for easily and conveniently than ever before.
Files/Images Types Search
Search for specific types of files/images, such as JPGs, GIFs, SVGs or PNGs, by adding filetype: and the 3-letter file abbreviation e.g. filetype:svg will only populate SVG Files in the results.
This also goes with documents like PDFs, DOCs and CHMs. use filetype:pdf
Search by Images
Use an image to search more of similar images. The simple trick is to click the Camera button in the search bar of Google Images, and paste an image URL or upload a picture from your system to make an image search.
Search inside certain Sites
Searching for any design, templates, images inside particular website can b done by using simple syntax like site: For e.g. if you are looking for mockup designs only from dribbble.com website, you can use the syntax site:dribbble.com mockup
Search Color by HEX Value and vice-versa
You can simply add the HEX Value in the google search bar to identify the color.
You can also find the HEX value of a color by using syntax red hex value.
Exclude a Word
Add a hypen before a word to exclude a search term. For e.g. If you looking for an image editing software other than Adobe’s software, use photo editing software -adobe
Find Similar Sites
This can be handy if you’re looking for a website similar to your favorite website. For e.g. If you are looking for website similar to web design blogs like smashingmagazine.com. You can use the syntax related:smashingmagazine.com
Search for multiple words at once
Narrow down your search to help you find exactly what you’re looking for by using multiple words or phrase. For e.g. If you looking for information on designing landing page you can use the phrase like “Best ways to design landing page” OR “How to design a landing page” together.
